Kevin McKay
Kevin McKay is an urban landscape painter who composes his work in the studio and en plein air. His paintings typically depict eerily empty architectural spaces where the stillness of classical form and the drama of light is found in the everyday and in the midst of urban transience.
An alumnus of Sydney’s National Art School and Southern Sydney Art School, McKay has exhibited extensively with 19 solo exhibitions since 2010. He is currently exhibiting with Flinders St Gallery, Sydney.
His many awards include: The 2018 Bayside Art Award, the 2015 Alan Gamble Memorial Award, and 2013 Waverley Art Prize’s Oil Painting Prize. He was also the recipient of the Broken Hill Art Exchange residency program in 2019, the inaugural William Fletcher Foundation's Scholarship to The British School at Rome in 2011, and the Basil & Muriel Hooper Scholarship from the AGNSW in 2006.
His work is represented in numerous public and private collections.
Mr McKay is on the board of Directors with the William Fletcher Foundation, and has taught at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney Grammar School, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Waverley Woollahra Art School and the National Art School.
